Match Report

First away game for the Hawks 1st team and it was a tough one. Third game into this long season and the squad really showed heart. Hawks took on the Bucks Hornets with a couple players short. The likes of both Jack H and Jack A, unavailable due to injury and personal matters.

Straight out of the gate both teams were hot and on fire, Bucks Hornets started of the scoreboard with a couple early points, however Hawks had an answer with an amazing three pointer from Konstantinos. During the first quarter, both teams were trading buckets but Hawks were able to light it up from three, with a total of 5 three pointers in that quarter. This came from Konstantinos, who dropped 2 of the 5 three pointers, Sam H, Josh H and Lee M. The first quarter ended tight with Bucks Hornets leading by 2 (20-18).

Second quarter was tough for the away team as energy’s started rising from the crowd. Their supporters were doing anything possible to distract the away team which lead the Buck Hornets to run away with the lead a little. The fight was still on as near to the end of the second quarter Modupe dropped a big three to try cut the lead. Nevertheless, free throws were an issue for Hawks as they were able to draw the fouls however not execute the finish.

Third quarter Hawks came out hot again with ball movement, player movement and a well organised structure on how to play. The talk from Coach Lee really motivated players to come out strong and put on a show. The lead was cut down to 5 which showed that Hawks were more than capable on gaining this dub. However, the injury bug seemed to hit a few of our active players, with Lee M tweaking his ankle, Modupe and Kurshan injuring their knees, and Konstantions having shoulder problems. It seemed like Hawks couldn’t catch a break but moreover the quarter was finished strong with Hawks winning that quarter.

Final quarter was tough as Buck Hornets started lighting it up from three, with 5 minutes left on the clock, Josh H was able to help with a couple nice dunks but it just didn’t seem to be enough. The final score was 81-65 with Hawks falling short. It was good effort from the boys and well played by everyone. Looks like it’s back to the drawing board and recovery for players before the next game. Hawks will see Bucks Hornets again and most definitely the outcome is going to be different, nevertheless great job fellas!
