Match Report

This was a big game for the Hawks playing against the unbeaten West Herts Warriors.

We started well getting out to a 12-1 lead early in . We moved the ball well up the court being able to run in lay ups. But then the Warriors dragged their way back into the game behind some full court pressure and made lay ups before we took control again and finished the first quarter with a lead of 21-12.

The second quarter did not start well for us with Warriors scoring the first 7 points and winning  this quarter 18-12. At half time we led 33-30 and we told the boys that the only team that can stop us winning this game is ourselves. We just needed to concentrate and cut out the unforced errors.

At the start of the 3rd quarter we reeled off the first 11 points before Warriors responded with 6 points  of their own. There was some really good team play during this quarter which we won 15-7.

Leading by 11 points going into the final quarter Warriors put on the full court press again and initially caused us some problems but once we moved the ball up the court quickly before players could be trapped we made some layups and knocked down some free throws when fouled which was really key.

We were able to run the time down and get an important victory. This was a good defensive effort restricting our opponents to 50 points and passing the ball well at times for lay up finishes at the basket. There is so much to improve on too which we will continue to work on during practise time.

Well done to the whole squad  today I’m very proud of your positive attitude and commitment to the team.
