Match Report

Tuesday night’s away game saw Hawks heading over to face North Herts Knights, who stand undefeated at the top of the HPL Division 1 League table with 9 wins and no losses. With the knowledge that Knights always have a full and experienced home bench, Hawks were in for a tough game.

Knights began the game strong, with 11 consecutive point lead in the first 5 minutes of the game. Using his inside low post prowess, R.Norkeliunas breaks the Hawks scoring drought, picking up the foul and additional FT point. The first quarter ends in Knights doubling their lead 24-7. With Coach-player S.Niaz stepping up this quarter, with two 3 pointers in succession, Hawks looked to bring the deficit down, however the Knights continued to hit with consistency, leaving the half time score standing at 44-24. From Half time talks, Hawks went into the 3rd quarter knowing that Knights were being generous with their fouls, yet the red’s free throws were not connecting so far and the Hawks were suffering because of it (9 of 17). L.Morris entered the score sheet with a ‘3’ and Junior J.Haddow came into the game, making a last minute basket to end the third quarter. Coming into the last quarter standing at 71-42, Hawks were beginning to lose focus and turn overs were on the rise. After calling for time out and a passionate pep talk by S.Niaz, the juniors plus veteran S.Friedner went back in to finish the game with some succesful plays and drives. Final Score 98-56.
