Match Report

The Hawks had a long road game away at LT United. The Hawks started the game with a quick inside jumper that was followed by an LT United fast break for the layup. The Hawks had most of the possession but could not get the ball to drop. The Hawks struggled offensively but made it to 5 points, however this was very short lived as LT United put a lot of size inside the paint, resulting in a number of back to back points. The Hawks found themselves on the back foot, with LT United 18 – 5 up within 5 minutes. Niaz and Marsden put a few points together to close up the gap and the team started to click on the defensive end with Evans & Rimas with a number of stops. Around the 9 minute mark the score was 23 – 14 and then TL was held to only 1 point for the last minute. With seconds to go Sargant made a very nice interception and an even better full court pass to Marsden for a buzzer beater layup, ending the quarter 24-18 to LT United.
The second quarter started almost exactly the same as the first with The Hawks making a quick basket. Sargant scored the bucket, he then was hit on the fast break for another 2 points, this being the last 2 point for The Hawks until the 6th minute. LT United went on a 10 point unanswered run until Rimas hit back to back points to close out the quarter 46 – 32 LT United.
The 3rd quarter saw the Hawks step up their defensive pressure resulting in a good show of heart from a team on the back foot. Showing that the halftime team talk definitely had an impact as coach discussed the importance of help side defence and defensive rebounds. The Hawks had the game back to within 8 points with an outstanding defensive display from the team. The 8 point gap was short lived with LT United going back to a 12 point lead. The quarter ended 58 – 49, the high point man for this quarter was Evans with 6 points, Patterson hitting a deep 3 to end the quarter.
The 4th quarter was a similar situation as the other 3, with The Hawks doing what they could to try and bring the game back into their control, unfortunately LT United went on a 67 a 51 run. The team did not give up showing that they were not going to let LT United get away with having it their own way. Patterson, had an outstanding spell with a number of steals followed up by lay ups. The game finished 82 – 64 to LT United.
