Mens – Match Reports

Below are the match reports for each Mens Herts Premier League (div 1) & Essex League (div 2) games written by Alex Hinds (team player).

  1. Herts League (Div 1) - Bedford Thunder vs. Harlow Hawks

Harlow finished the last game of their regular season with their longest journey away to Bedford Thunder. The team travelled light only taking 8, 3 of those under 18’s.

The game though started well, Harlow had all there experience out on the court to start and this showed as by the 5th minute they’d opened up a 14-8 lead with baskets from White, Morris, Niaz and Norkeliunas. The game levelled out though after the defensively intensity dropped resulting in Harlow going into the first quarter up by just 4.

The second quarter was a very level affair, as both teams exchanged buckets throughout. Good work on the boards inside see Haddow clear up and get to the line for free throws and long range shooting from Niaz who shot three 3’s in the quarter kept the game in contention. The Hawks walked into half time leading 38-34.

The third quarter was a similar affair to the two that had followed. It was no shock to see baskets exchanged throughout as Bedford capitalised on their numbers and got up and down the court at a fast pace. Scores from Morris, White and Norkeliunas kept the game close and the defence picked up to stem some of Bedford’s running game.

The defence stepped up in the fourth yet again, a clearly tiring Hawks found extra energy from somewhere to try to contain the lead and seal out the game. Sargant in his seniors debut alongside Savchenko provided great energy chasing down the ball and slowing the Thunders guards. Scores from White, Niaz, Haddow were followed up by two clutch baskets, a three by Sargant and Hawkins cutting through the defence to finish a tough lay up with less than 20 seconds left. A great bit of final defence saw the game finish 67-65 to Harlow and put them into 5th Place for the Playoffs.

    Scores: Niaz (14pts), Morris (14pts), White (11pts), Norkeliunas (9pts), Haddow (7pts), Hawkins (4pts), Savcenko (4pts), Sargant (3pts)
